All images on Iconoteca have a tag regarding their copyright status. You can encounter two situations:

  1. Images are tagged as free. This allows you to:
    1. share (transmit, distribute, copy)
    2. use them for any purpose, even commercially (e.g. teaching, research, lectures, publications)
    3. adapt - remix, transform, and build upon the material to create new works
Images that are distributed under a CC-BY SA 4.0 license are at free disposal, but with the obligation to attribute the rights holder, provide a link to the same license and declare alterations to the original material.

  2. Images are under copyright: you have to contact the indicated copyright holder and ask for permission. The user is solely responsible for the fulfillment of this obligation.

All metadata accessible on iconoteca.arc.usi.ch are at free disposal without restrictions under the conditions defined by Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication.

However you will be using metadata, we advise you to read this guide for a conscious and ethical approach: https://www.europeana.eu/portal/it/rights/metadata.html
